DENVER – A company that purchased curry powder from an importer and then shipped the product to seven states, including Colorado, has initiated a voluntary recall of Baraka brand curry powders due to a high level of lead found in the product.
Testing done by the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development found the high lead levels, according to a release from the Food and Drug Administration.
The affected products by UBC Food Distributors Inc have UPC codes 822514265566 and 822514265535.
The FDA said they are in the process of contacting the source of the product, so that corrective action can be taken on their part.
The FDA warns that use of, or consumption of this product may elevate lead levels in the blood.
