DENVER – The last remaining Kmart in Denver will be closing, Sears announced Wednesday.
The store located at 363 South Broadway is just one of 108 Kmart stores and 42 Sears stores nationwide the chain will be shutting down by April of this year, according to The Business Insider. The Grand Junction location was also included in Wednesday’s announcement.
Kmart was once one of the most dominant retailers in the Denver metro area, with several stores even selling groceries. But the discounter started to slowly disappear from the retailing landscape after slow sales in the last decade.
There will only be about a couple Kmart stores left in the state come April. Sears Holdings-- Kmart’s parent company-- shut down the Thornton and Craig locations just a couple months ago.
There is no word on when the store will begin liquidating. Plans for the Broadway location have not been announced.
