A kitten attacked by a dog lost a leg, but survived and has a new home.
The kitten, now named Trooper, was found under a porch in March, along with his four siblings, according to the Foothills Animal Shelter.
Two kittens were dead, only Trooper and one sibling were alive.
When Trooper arrived at the shelter, his right leg was so damaged he needed emergency surgery.
"His front leg was so damaged that we knew surgery was necessary," said Dr. Emily Hays, Chief Veterinarian at Foothills Animal Shelter. "Anesthesia for such young animals can be very dangerous, but we knew without the surgery he wouldn’t survive, so we decided to take the chance.”
The kitten survived and was named Trooper because of his will to live, shelter officials said.
Trooper and his sister were put in foster care, bottle-fed and survived.
"He is a rambunctious, healthy kitten that loves to play with toys," shelter officials said. "His missing limb doesn’t slow him down at all."
Officials said trooper was adopted by two people who spotted him on the Foothills Animal Shelter’s website and fell in love.
