LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Mother's Day means a lot to mothers across the U.S., but one young family copes with sadness as they remember a lost mother and wife. Each year they send up balloons and a card into the sky, but Mother Nature interrupted that ritual this year.
A young father in Lakewood called West Metro Fire Rescue for help when his son's balloon became trapped in a nearby tree.
The routinely positive moment became a painful reminder of the family's loss. Firefighters would save the day.
They spared the time — and ladder — to remove the balloon from the tree, allowing the family to move on and release a new balloon.
