BRIGHTON, Colo. – Police in Brighton arrested a 21-year-old man Wednesday after he entered a school and allegedly made threats against staff claiming he had a gun.

Police say Isaiah Padilla told staff supervising a summer program for elementary-aged children at Foundations Academy that he was at the school to pick up two kids, but when he was repeatedly told those kids were not at the school, a visibly intoxicated Padilla refused to leave.

Police say Padilla then began to wander the school as staff evacuated the children, at which point police say he threatened them that he had a gun.

Police were called and a search of the school came up empty. Officers later caught up with the suspect later in the day.

Police say the suspect is known to school staff. He had been at the school on past occasions to pick up children.

Padilla was booked into the Adams County Detention Facility on charges of felony menacing, and interfering with students, faculty, or staff of an educational institution.
