A man convicted of driving drunk and causing a crash that killed a woman in Denver on Christmas Day 2013 has been sentenced to 34 years in prison.
The Denver District Attorney's Office announced that 39-year-old Johnny Gilbert was sentenced for the death of 35-year-old Dora Gaytan-Esparza, whose husband and two children were also injured.
Prosecutors say Gilbert ran a red light and crashed into the family's car as they were returning home from a Christmas Eve celebration. He then fled the scene.
Gilbert was convicted of several charges, including vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, leaving the scene of a fatal crash and driving under the influence.
