Jogger critical after hit-&-run making progress

Posted

The husband of a jogger critically injured in a hit-and-run on University Boulevard says his wife is making progress.

"She is still in critical condition, but we are encouraged by her progress," David Benner wrote in an email to 7NEWS.

Benner's note thanked the community, "On behalf of our family and friends, we'd like to thank everyone for your outpouring of love and support for my wife, Tina. Words cannot express how much it is helping us through this very difficult time."

Tina was hit Tuesday morning while on a training run for the Denver Rock 'n' Roll marathon.

She was left bleeding on the side of the road not far from Crossland Way and near Quebec Street, across from Highland Heritage Regional Park, according to a spokesperson with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Tina suffered serious injuries and was listed in critical condition, at last report.

Friends said Tina is amazing woman.

"She's such a giver and inspiration," one friend told 7NEWS. "She's involved in charities and does volunteer work."

Friends have created a GoFundMe account to help pay for Tina's medical expenses.

"Tina's injuries are severe and her path to recovery will be long," Tina's friend Kimberly LeBlanc Owen wrote. "The medical bills are going to be significant for this beautiful family."

A driver has turned himself in the hit-and-run.
