Job fair targets Colorado Mill workers left hanging in the balance

GOLDEN, Colo. – When baseball-size hail began pounding the roof and skylights of the Colorado Mills Mall last month, many at that moment probably weren’t thinking about job security. But that reality hit hundreds of employees after the scope of the damage to the mall began to emerge.

The May 8 hailstorm tore holes through the building's roof, shuttering the mall for months and leaving hundreds without a job. Now, the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment is reaching out to those workers affected by closure.

The state labor department is hosting a job fair for the displaced employees Wednesday June 7 at the Marriott Denver West, located at 17 Denver West Boulevard. The hiring event begins at 9 a.m. and runs until noon.

More than 20 employers, including other area retailers and the City of Lakewood, are expected to be on hand during job fair.

Officials from the labor department said other resources will be available during the event including assistance filing for unemployment insurance and human services programs.

For those jobseekers who are unable to attend the event, they can contact the American Job Center at 303-271-4700, option #1, or email americanjobcenter@jeffco.us for valuable information about job search services and job training assistance.
