DENVER – A push from the City and County of Denver to bring a Target store to the 16th Street Mall has paid off.

Target Stores finalized a lease on the mall Monday after the Denver City Council approved a $4 million incentive package, a corporate news release confirmed. The store will be open for business by the summer of 2018.

The 28,000 square-foot Target store will be located on the southeast corner of 16th and California and occupy the second and third floors of the building that currently houses an Einstein Bros. Bagels and Great Clips.

The 16th Street Mall store represents a shift in Target’s growth plan. The retailer has been focusing on opening small-format stores in urban areas across the country.

Target says the downtown location will provide a quick-trip shopping experience that will include fresh produce.
