NEDERLAND, Colo. — A multi-agency team is continuing to investigate the circumstances around a house explosion in Nederland on July 3.

The home is located at a property in the Big Springs area.

Law enforcement officials found homemade explosives and pyrotechnic devices inside the home, according to a press release from the Town of Nederland. Some were too dangerous to transport and had to be detonated on site. Others were removed to be detonated at another location.

Officials for the town and authorities said they understand the detonations may have been unsettling, but emphasized that they were necessary and carefully carried out. The majority of the explosives found at the home have already been destroyed, according to the town.

This team investigating this incident includes the Nederland Police Department, Nederland Fire Protection District, and the Boulder County Regional Bomb Squad. In addition, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, other federal agencies, and the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office are assisting.

Law enforcement said they could not share any additional information as of Friday late morning.

The investigation is ongoing.
