GREELEY, Colo. (AP) — A suspect wanted in connection with an Illinois homicide and armed bank robbery has been killed in Colorado following a car chase by police, authorities said.
The pursuit ended in the unnamed suspect’s death after a crash near an intersection of Highway 85, the Weld County Sheriff’s Office said.
The suspect was identified by the Iroquis County Sheriff's Office in Illinois as 43-year-old Mathew W. Borden. He was accused of murdering a woman in Illinois on Dec. 13 and a man in Illinois on Dec. 14.
The pursuit took place around 2 p.m. Sunday after law enforcement agencies were notified the suspect’s vehicle was seen on Highway 14, the sheriff’s office in Greeley said.
A Colorado State Patrol trooper and an Ault Police Department officer chased the vehicle, which reached speeds over 100 mph.
The driver fired gun shots outside the vehicle and the state trooper and and Ault officer called in the Weld County Regional SWAT Team. The SWAT team approached and found the suspect dead next to the vehicle, authorities said.
The sheriff’s office said Sunday it is investigating and additional details were being withheld.
