LAS ANIMAS COUNTY, Colo. — Human remains were found near the town of Aguilar on Sunday, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an abandoned truck stop at exit 34 on Interstate 25 shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday. Residents walking in the area had found the remains and called authorities.
The sheriff’s office, with assistance from the CBI, investigated the remains. Members of the CBI Crime Scene Response team processed the area.
A coroner will work to identify the remains and determine the cause of death. The autopsy is expected to be completed on Tuesday afternoon.
CBI said it does not believe the remains belong to Kelsey Berreth, the mother out of Woodland Park who has been missing since Thanksgiving.
