A huge home went up in flames in Edwards overnight.

The Eagle River Fire Protection District posted video of the fire on Colorow Road on Facebook.

“It was frustrating,” said ERFPD Public Information Officer Tracy LeClair. “We had four Water Tenders – capable of carrying roughly 2,500 gallons of water each – but it just wasn’t enough. Every time we would start to make some headway, we would run out of water. We calculated it was approximately a 30-minute round trip to refill each Tender and get it back up the hill.”

Cold temperatures also made roads slick and difficult for apparatus to negotiate, officials said.

Engine 15 (Cordillera), Engine 12 (Edwards), Tender 12 (Edwards), Engine 7 (Avon), Engine 5 (Minturn) responded & are being assisted by Battalion 3 (Vail Fire), Tender 14 (Gypsum Fire), Tender 9 (Greater Eagle Fire), Eagle County Paramedic Services, Eagle County Sheriff's Office, Vail Valley Salvation Army, Holy Cross Energy and Vail Public Safety Communications Center

The homeowners were not in the residence at the time of the fire and no one was hurt.

Officials say the extent of the damage is still being assessed; however, it appears to be extensive.

The cause is still under investigation.
