How you can help the victims of the STEM School shooting

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — Nine Colorado families and a community, no stranger to tragedy, is grappling with answers after authorities say two teenagers opened fire inside STEM School in Highlands Ranch Tuesday.

One teen, identified as 18-year-old Kendrick Castillo, died in the shooting. Eight other students were injured, with three remaining hospitalized in intensive care. The two suspected shooters are expected to be booked on several charges, including first degree murder.

There are ways you can help the families affected by this act of violence.

Colorado has a dedicated fund to help victims of mass violence. After Tuesday's shooting at STEM School, the Colorado Healing Fund has been activated and will be collecting donations for victims.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office has also set up an account with Wells Fargo. Those wishing to donate an go into any branch and ask to donate to the Kendrick Castillo Memorial Fund by cash, check or transfer.

A GoFundMe account has also been set up to help pay the victim’s medical expenses. Aidan Ayotte started the verified campaign and is working the crowdfunding site to raise funds. His goal is to raise $10,000, and he has already raised over $4,000 as of Wednesday.
