Homicide investigation underway near Leadville after man found dead in home

LAKE COUNTY, Colo. — Officials have started a homicide investigation after a man was found deceased inside a home in Lake County, just outside Leadville city limits.

Around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, the man was found deceased in a residence at 1734 Highway 24 in Lake County, west of Leadville.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to the residence after a person called 911. Deputies found signs of a struggle inside and as a result, began a homicide investigation, the sheriff's office said. In addition to the sheriff's office, the Office of the District Attorney and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation were also working at the scene.

The man was only identified as being Hispanic. His name has not been released as authorities work to notify his next-of-kin.

As of Thursday at 10 p.m., nobody had been arrested in connection to the investigation. The sheriff's office said they do not believe there is a danger to the public.
