DENVER -- Home prices are soaring in Denver, so one non-profit group is building an affordable neighborhood for residents in Sheridan.

Right now it's an open field and piles of dirt. But some of that dirt was thrown around Thursday morning as part of the groundbreaking for the new  "Sheridan Square" neighborhood that is now officially under construction.

It's located on the former Fort Lupton elementary school site, and will soon to be the home to 63 homes to house over 130 adults and over 200 children.

It will be a whole block, built in parts over the next few years.

One future homeowner, who is originally from Jordan, chose to make the Denver area his new home.

"I'm so happy to be there, own the home, to be like our own home. We own, it we raise it, we work with the construction, we happy to do that," Fadia Nassar said.

This is the biggest project the local Habitat organization has ever taken on.

The first homes will be built over the next few months, the entire neighborhood is expected to be completed around 2020.
