AURORA, Colo. – A 15-year-old Hinkley High School student was arrested Thursday after he allegedly brought a loaded handgun to school.
The student was arrested around 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Aurora police spokesperson Crystal McCoy said a student at the school saw the handgun Thursday morning and reported it to school staffers, who in turn called police.
Police arrested the student in a classroom without incident, McCoy said. The loaded gun was found in his waistband.
McCoy said the student is being investigated for charges related to being a juvenile in possession of a handgun, bringing a handgun on school grounds and interfering with school functions. He has not been identified because he is a juvenile.
McCoy said police were not sure why the student was armed or if he had any intent with the gun. She said the school was placed on lockdown during the arrest and investigation.
