High-speed Internet coming to small CO town

Posted

A small mountain town in Colorado has laid the groundwork to provide its students with high-speed Internet service.

The Durango Herald reports that Silverton is the only county seat in the state that isn't connected to the fiber-optic backbone. The community still relies on a microwave link built by Qwest, the company that became CenturyLink.

But Silverton Public School Superintendent Kim White says she believes the school's new Internet connection will be complete by the end of December. The current connection has sometimes prevented students from streaming educational videos.

There are also plans to bring better residential service to the area, but the timeline for that isn't clear yet.
