DENVER — A torrential downpour Saturday evening flooded streets across the Denver metro area, shutting down major highways and on-ramps.

In Denver, police shut down a section of 6th Avenue after water buried the freeway between Lowell and Sheridan boulevards.

The highway was reopened a half-hour later after most of the water drained away.

Wheat Ridge police tweeted a photo showing flooding on the eastbound I-70 on-ramp at Wadsworth:

The on-ramp was closed while floodwaters subsided.

Other areas saw streets turn into waterways, too. Minor to significant street flooding was reported across the metro area.

The rain should return on Sunday as we hit highs in the mid to upper 90s.
