ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. – The 15-year-old boy accused of killing 10-year-old Kiaya Campbell was denied bail Friday and will remain in juvenile custody while he awaits an October hearing to determine if he will face adult charges in the case.

Media personnel were allowed into the courtroom for Friday's hearing for the first time, allowing reporters to see the teen for the first time.

Denver7 is not naming the teen, who is accused of murdering Campbell, as he hasn't yet been charged as an adult.

Kiaya Campbell left her dad's home in Thornton with a 15-year-old to walk to a nearby store on the evening of June 7. She never returned home but the boy did. It’s still unclear if the boy was the same one charged with her murder. (Denver7 hasn't yet received an affidavit which would link the two.)

But after she went missing, police issued an Amber Alert and searched for hours before the girl’s body was found in Thornton.

Many details have been kept under wraps as court proceedings move forward and as prosecutors seek to have the boy tried as an adult.

The October hearing in which a judge will decide the boy's trial status is scheduled for Oct. 30, and will take five days. A status hearing is set for Sept. 8.
