DENVER — Showers and thunderstorms are set to roll over the mountains and Colorado's mountain towns as the afternoon progresses into the evening on Tuesday, potentially leading to trouble during rush hour.

Severe weather will impact the Denver metro area beginning at about 2 p.m., dropping hail and heavy rain as they progress into true storms around 4 p.m. By 8 p.m., storms should dissipate.

The hardest hit areas will be the foothills and nearby plains, as well as the Palmer Divide.

Hailstorms also struck near Colorado Springs. The downpour caused street flooding in some areas. The following viewer video was shot in the area and shows the storm's aftermath.

Weather risks:

Those living in flood-prone areas and near burn scars should be aware of the possibility of floods.

Anybody who will be outside should consider taking cover as lightning strikes will be very prevalent.

Hail could grow up to 1.5 inches in diameter, which hits the threshold for damaging hail.

Forecast for the rest of the week:

Showers and thunderstorms could again surface on Wednesday, although severe weather is a lower risk that day.

Thursday could hold small showers and rain, with a small chance for thunderstorms.

There will be no storms on Friday through the weekend.
