GREELEY, Colo. — A type of swingset compliant with the Americans with Disability Act was removed district-wide in Greeley after a 6-year-old girl was killed in a playground accident, Greeley-Evans School District 6 officials confirmed to Denver7 Tuesday.

Brooklyn thill was injured playing on an ADA-compliant swingset after class at McAuliffe Elementary School Dec. 5. The girl, who was not disabled, died three days later at the hospital.

According to a police report obtained by the Greeley Tribune, harness-like straps used to buckle kids into the swing became snarled, strangling Brooklyn. Witnesses cut her free and performed CPR. However, she succumbed to her injuries Dec. 8 at Children’s Hospital.

In the wake of the accident, district officials said they had pulled all of the ADA-compliant swings in the district except one. The swing was manufactured by TFH Special Needs Toys.

“All the rest have been taken down and are being assessed, and we will either put them back up or buy new ones,” district spokeswoman Theresa Myers said

According to the Greeley Tribune, the swing was installed at the girl’s school about a month ago. There is currently no national recall of the product.
