WELD COUNTY, Colo. — A Greeley man was sentenced to 29 years in prison for shooting a 22-year-old woman as she sat in a parked car in 2017.

In April 2017, witnesses saw Saw Heh, 38, fire a gun into the passenger side of a parked car near 15th Street before he drove away in a separate car, according to the 19th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. He made a U-turn, returned to the car, pulled the woman from the vehicle and put her in the back seat of his car.

A few minutes later, a Greeley police officer spotted Heh pulling into North Colorado Medical Center.

Heh was later arrested at the facility, according to the district attorney’s office. The woman survived.

Authorities said they believe he shot the woman because she wouldn't leave her husband to be with him, according to the district attorney's office.

In June 2019, Heh pleaded guilty to one count of attempted first-degree murder. He was sentenced to 29 years in prison in early December.

“This situation could have ended a lot worse,” said Deputy District Attorney Patrick Roche. “Thankfully it didn’t, though. This defendant almost took the life of a young, innocent girl on the day he decided to fire shots into her vehicle. We absolutely will not tolerate this kind of behavior and he deserves the maximum punishment.”
