Governor Hickenlooper signs bill allowing school nurses to administer medical marijuana to students

DENVER — Governor John Hickenlooper signed a bill that allows Colorado school nurses to administer non-smokable medical marijuana to students.

House Bill 1286, signed into law Monday, enhances an existing law that allows parents to treat their children on school grounds.

The new law permits school nurses to administer the medicine but requires the non-smokable marijuana be kept in a locked container.

A Medical Marijuana Registry Card and a doctor’s note are also necessary.

In a letter, the governor said he signed the bill after speaking with “with parents whose children are medical marijuana patients.”
