DENVER – Colorado has a spicy new addition to its lineup of specialty license plates.
Governor John Hickenlooper on Tuesday signed into law a bill that establishes a Pueblo chile licnese plate.
Representative Daneya Esgar introduced the bill at the request of the Pueblo Chile Growers Association.
“This is a proud day for all of Colorado, not just for Pueblo and the Lower Arkansas Valley, where the Pueblo chiles are grown,” Rep. Esgar said. “Our local growers deserve recognition of their outstanding chiles. I’m just sorry they were out planting today and couldn’t come to the signing.”
New Mexico’s legislature had been considering its own bill that would have created a chile pepper license plate. That bill was vetoed, only to be replaced by a different license plate design that declares New Mexico the “Chile capital of the world.”
The Pueblo chile license plate will be available starting in Septemer 2018.
