LONGMONT, Colo. -- The most unlikely of things are being stolen in Longmont: garden gnomes.

"The little trolls, I guess they're trolls, I don’t want to bad mouth gnomes," Longmont Police Detective Stephen Desmond said. "The little trolls you put in your front yard for decoration."

Longmont PD recently received several calls about missing gnomes by some very anxious owners.

"People are pretty passionate about their gnomes. If you take someone's garden gnome you’re asking for trouble because these people won’t stop until they get their garden gnomes back," Desmond said.

Those passionate owners include Stephanie Oliver.

"I know I'll never forget about Larry no matter how hard I try," she said.

Larry is her garden gnome, stolen a few days ago.

"I was really disappointed because I’ve had Larry for 16 years. He’s a part of my life," she said.

So now like Sherlock "Gnomes" the Longmont Police is investigating and trying to get the missing gnomes home.

When asked what his message to the suspect or suspects was, Detective Desmond replied "I'd be afraid. I'd be very afraid.
