Gang members get more than 100 years in Lakewood killing

GOLDEN, Colo. – Two Colorado gang members convicted of first-degree murder were recently handed down lengthy prison sentences.

John Sanchez, 42, was sentenced to life in prison plus 108 years. Co-defendant Andrew Gutierrez, 46, was sentenced to life in prison plus 16 years.

The two high-ranking members of the street gang “GKI” were convicted in the 2015 shooting death of Eric Schnaare.

The victim was shot and killed at a Lakewood apartment, known to law enforcement as a popular gang hangout. Testimony at trial was that within seconds of entering the apartment, he was shot and killed.

Sanchez and Gutierrez were both convicted following a jury trial in December, 2016.
