Fuel spill on northbound I-25 causes delays at 6th Avenue

DENVER – A fuel spill closed several lanes of northbound I-25 at Alameda Tuesday morning, causing traffic backups as drivers headed to work and school.

One lane of northbound traffic was open just south of 6th Avenue for most of the morning, but the cleanup still caused headaches for commuters.

Authorities say a tractor trailer's ruptured fuel tank is to blame. Crews had to spread sand along the freeway to soak up the fuel.

The crash was cleared by noon Tuesday.
