FLORENCE, Colo. — An active member of the U.S. Armed Forces is being held in jail amid charges of having sex with a 14-year-old.
Fremont County Sheriff's Deputies say they arrested James A. Walker, 26, on charges of sexual assault on a child after a lengthy investigation.
Police say they began their investigation In September of 2016 after learning Walker may have engaged in sexual text message conversations with the then 13-year-old. They say they learned the relationship progressed after she turned 14 into having a sexual relationship.
According to Denver7 partner KRDO, Walker has been in the Army for over seven years and is currently acting as a military police officer. In his time, he's accrued the following medals.

- Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star

- Overseas Service Ribbon – 2

The Army Criminal Investigation Division is also involved in the overall investigation. They say he is being held on a no-bond warrant in Colorado Springs.
