GLENDALE — GLENDALE, Colo — "He was just always so great," said Tera Walsh about her friend Andrew Todis. "He always took care of us."
It was Walsh who did her best to take care of Todis on Friday night after he was stabbed by an intruder, Kyle Swain, at Shotgun Willie's Strip Club, where he was working as a bouncer.
"We tried so hard, and we just couldn't. It wasn't enough," she said with tear-filled eyes.
His family described Todis as a 'gentle giant' in a statement put out by his family.
"His heart was as big as his 6'5" stature," said Anitra Todis. "His laugh could silence a room and his family was endless."
On Friday, Kyle Swain charged the club where he stabbed several people, including Todis. Swain entered the building and continued his rampage until a security guard inside shot and killed him. That security guard is in the hospital recovering from knife wounds.
"I also heard that he was also a victim. He was stabbed, said Walsh. "Then, he was able to put the attacker down."
Todis was also taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
"It hit me a lot harder than I thought, maybe it would. Experiencing it the way I did," she said. "When I saw him close his eyes that last time, I remember screaming."
A small group of patrons of the club gathered outside of the club on Sunday to remember their friend.
"We just wanted to come out with the cars and show whoever is here that we care. That he wasn't alone," said Walsh. "It is definitely something I am never going to forget. I will never forget Andrew. I barely knew the guy, but the last few moments of his life have such a profound impact on the rest of mine."
