FORT COLLINS, Colo. – It’s a feat many attempt but few accomplish. And now a Fort Collins man is among those few.

Jim Davidson accomplished the lofty goal of summiting Mount Everest. He proudly proclaimed his conquest of the world’s tallest peak Sunday afternoon on Facebook.

“There was joy & beauty. There was pain & suffering,” he wrote, noting he had been awake for 36 hours.

Perhaps a demonstration of just how dangerous climbing Mount Everest can be, the Fort Collins man made it to the top the same weekend four others died trying.

Climbers from the United States, Slovakia India and Australia died on the mountain over the weekend.

The number of climbers who have died on Everest during the current spring climbing season, which began in March and runs through the end of this month, has now reached six. A typical spring season sees around six deaths on Everest, according to mountaineering officials.
