FORT CARSON, Colo. — Officials have chosen four military installations, including Colorado's Fort Carson, as possible housing options for people who need to be quarantined for the Coronavirus, the Department of Defense announced.

It was unclear Saturday whether any evacuees would be coming to Colorado, but the Fort Carson post will be able to provide housing for up to 250 people through February.

Travis Air Force Base in California, Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in California were selected as the other housing locations.

The housing would be available for up to 1,000 people who might need to be quarantined for the virus upon returning from overseas travel.

All evacuees would be monitored for 14 days, according to CDC guidelines.

While the Department of Defense will provide the housing for evacuees who might need to be quarantined, the Department of Health and Human Services will be responsible for care, transportation and security.

The outbreak of the Coronavirus was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. Eight cases have been identified in the United States, including California, Arizona, Washington and Illinois, according to the CDC. The most recent case was confirmed in Boston, Massachusetts, where a college student who recently returned from Wuhan was confirmed to have the virus, officials said.
