Former ‘Bachelorette' winner Ryan Sutter helping with Harvey relief efforts

VAIL, Colo. – Firefighter and former reality TV show contestant Ryan Sutter is among those who have traveled to Texas to help with recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

Sutter and his wife, Trista, who met on the first season of the ABC dating show “The Bachelorette," live in Vail, Colorado. The show aired in 2003 and the couple remains married.

Trista Sutter posted on Twitter Wednesday morning that Ryan was texting her from a boat in Texas as he attempted to rescue some of those affected by the storm. Sutter said she was “nervous and hopeful.”

In an Instagram post, Ryan Sutter posted that he was headed from Houston to Port Arthur. Sutter’s photo shows the road covered in water, with cars inching along in single file.

Recovery efforts in Houston and surrounding areas are expected to last for some time, with FEMA saying it would need volunteers for the next couple of years.
