DENVER – Good morning and happy Monday! Here's what you need to know as you start your work week:
1. Rep. Jared Polis is running for Colorado governor
Jared Polis, a Democrat who represents Colorado's 2nd Congressional District, will officially announce he's joining the gubernatorial race in 2018. Even though he already let his Facebook followers know ahead of time.
2. Three different fires are burning in northwestern Colorado right now
More than 80 firefighters are working to extinguish the Hunter Fire (637 acres), the Temple Fire (65 acres) and the Cross Fire (55 acres) near Craig. Crews said they are making good progress.
3. Westminster PD looking for vehicle that rammed a patrol car
Officers said a female driver in a silver Subaru Forester with Colorado license plate FHQ287 rammed a patrol car before leaving the scene on Sunday. Police said they were trying to conduct a traffic stop before the vehicle took off near Westcliff Parkway and Westminster Blvd. If you see vehicle, which may be missing a back license plate, call police.
4. Pulse shooting memorial at Cheesman Park
The local chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) will be holding a vigil at Cheesman Park to remember the 49 people who were killed in the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. The memorial starts at 6:30 p.m.
5. You better pick up the phone, because CDOT will be calling
CDOT is going to be calling thousands of people on Monday and they'll be asking you to participate in a telephone town hall on future plans and funding for our roads. A 5 p.m. meeting will focus on the Western Slope and other mountain communities including Summit, Eagle, Grand, Routt, Gunnison and Pitkin counties. A 5:30 p.m. meeting will be for southern Colorado and includes El Paso, Park, Teller and 11 other counties.
