BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. –A man fishing near South Boulder Creek came upon human skeletal remains Saturday, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say the man was traveling along the creek in the Walker Ranch Open Space when he happened upon the remains.
The man called the sheriff’s office immediately after the discovery and led investigators to the area the next day. During a scene investigation, deputies recovered additional remains that were believed to have been scattered by wildlife.
The identity of the remains and cause and manner of death have yet to be determined. However, investigators are looking into a missing person case in the area as a possible lead.
Ryder Johnson, 20, was reported missing in January 2016. His car was found abandoned in the 5800 block of Gross Dam Road. Several searches in the area came up empty.
Deputies stress that no link has been made as of yet as the investigation continues.
