ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. – A firefighter was injured after crews responded to an attic fire at an apartment complex in Arapahoe County late Friday afternoon. Firefighters said residents of 24 units in the complex were displaced.

The blaze took place at the Covington on Cherry Creek, just off South Trenton Way near East Iliff Avenue.

South Metro Fire Rescue tweeted there were initial reports of people trapped, but after a search of the building, they gave the all clear and said no civilians were injured in the fire.

Just before 5 p.m., officials said one firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries as crews continued to attack the blaze. Several pets were being rescued even as fire officials declared the fire under control. It's unclear at this point what ignited the flames. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A two-alarm fire at the same apartment complex displaced 48 residents on Dec. 30 last year. That time, the fire apparently broke out on the third floor of Building 4. Investigators have not said what caused that fire.
