DENVER – A driver who was killed when his SUV crashed into a semi-truck early Friday was driving in a closed lane he shouldn't have been in, the Colorado State Patrol said.
The crash occurred at about 3:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-25 near the junction with E-470.
Troopers said a 28-year-old male driver from Maryland didn't appear to be wearing his seatbelt when he crashed into the rear end of a semi that was parked in the center lane of the freeway, which was closed for road work.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi, a 48-year-old man from Aurora, sustained minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The cause of the crash wasn't immediately clear but troopers said a coroner would determine if drugs or alcohol were involved.
