THORNTON, Colo. – Families who lost a loved one in the deadly Walmart shooting spree in Thornton last week are laying them to rest. Funerals for some of the victims were held Wednesday.
Pamela Marques, 52, of Denver; Carlos Moreno, 66, of Thornton; and Victor Vasquez, 26, of Denver, were killed when a gunman “nonchalantly" walked into the store Nov. 1,took out a handgun and began firing randomly. The suspect has been arrested and is awaiting trial.
Moreno was a structural trades technician at the Auraria Higher Education Center in Denver. His cousin wrote on Facebook: “Carlos was a good husband, father, grandfather, cousin, friend man. I am blessed to have had you in my life. Please pray for the family.”
Vasquez was a father of two young girls and had another child on the way, according to his fiancé and a GoFundMe page started by a family friend. His fiancé told Denver7 she was “completely distraught” by Vasquez’s death.
Marques worked for more than two decades for the Packaging Corporation of America. Her niece, Anntionette Marques, said her aunt’s daughter and granddaughters were “her life.” “She’s generous, caring, … and her smile is contagious,” she told the Associated Press, adding that Marques was with her husband at the store when she was shot and killed.
Two separate funerals for Marques and Moreno were held Wednesday. A memorial service for Marques was held at the Romero Family Funeral Home in Denver. Services for Moreno were held in Northglenn. A date for services honoring Vasquez has yet to be released.
