GOLDEN, Colo. — Every year, new names are etched in stone at the Colorado Law Enforcement Memorial in Golden.
Annually on the first Friday of May, friends, family and local members of law enforcement come together to honor those whose names were added to the stone wall.
Deputy Zachari Parrish is one of them. He was gunned down on Dec. 31 while trying to help a troubled man in Douglas County.
Five historical names will also be honored.
Colorado lost three deputies in a matter of months. Adams County Deputy Heath Gumm was killed only a few weeks later. El Paso County Deputy Micah Flick was killed in the line of duty this past February.
Both deputies were killed this year. That means their names won't be added to the Colorado Law Enforcement Memorial until 2019.
