DENVER - A man who impersonated an officer in an attempted sex assault was sentenced Thursday.

A Denver judge gave 33-year-old Morris Fate an 18-month prison sentence and also required him to register as a sex offender for the 2015 incident

Fate tried to sexually assault a woman in the early-morning hours of Oct. 6 near 17th Avenue and Xenia Street.

When she tried to get away, Fate flashed a badge and claimed to be a police officer. She ran off and yelled loud enough for neighbors to call police.

Police eventually caught Fate a few blocks away from the attack near 14th Ave. and Yosemite.

Fate will also spend two years on parole after finishing his prison sentence.
