DENVER -- Federal officials tell Denver7 they’re gearing up for a record-setting Sunday at Denver International Airport.

Airlines have added flights early in the morning and late at night. The airport is expecting thousands more travelers this Sunday than a typical travel day.

Already, the TSA has added agents and K-9 teams.

Now, additional workers will supplement the existing employees during the surge. Officials are hoping to avoid a repeat of the 2015 holiday season, when travelers struggled with long waits.

"We're adding an additional 40 employees from outside of the Colorado environment to come in and they're specifically scheduled for when that flying is occurring,” said Larry Nau, federal security director for Colorado.
