Evergreen Lake is open for ice skating, the recreation district announced Wednesday.
The season opening had been planned for Dec. 19, but conditions were not right until Dec. 23.
The Evergreen Parks and Recreation District says Evergreen Lake is the the world's largest Zamboni-groomed outdoor ice rink. The lake covers 8.5 acres of ice with 11 pond hockey rinks and a large public skating rink.
Multiple agencies work together to ensure safety at the lake.
The lake is owned by the city of Denver as part of its mountain parks system, but Evergreen Park and Recreation District manages the recreational activities, trails and lake house under a lease agreement.
