ERIE, Colo. – On May 20, a family of three was found dead in their Erie home. On Sunday, the Boulder County Coroner’s office confirmed the case was a murder-suicide.

Officials believe father and husband John Farrar, 48, stabbed his wife, Elizabeth Stacy Farrar, 40; and son Ian Connor Farrar, 4, before shooting himself.

Their home was located near Gordon Court and Brennan Street in Erie.

After the police responded to the crime scene, the Boulder County District Attorney took to his Facebook page and posted, “My staff sees a lot of sadness, daily. But nothing compares to a murder-suicide crime scene with a young child victim.” The post was later deleted.

Denver7 spoke to a friend of Elizabeth, who says the victim talked about separating from her husband.

“We all went to lunch and [Elizabeth] mentioned something about, ‘My soon-to-be ex-husband,’” said Michael Vasicek.

Back in May, Denver7 crews spoke off-camera with John Farrar’s mother. She said her son, who worked in Arizona, was back home attempting to work on the marriage.

She found their bodies.

The coroner’s report said Elizabeth and Ian died from multiple stab wounds, and John died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
