ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Police in Englewood are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash on Broadway Saturday. A suspect has been identified and police have issued an arrest warrant.

The crash occurred in the 4400 block of South Broadway, according to a tweet from the Englewood Police Department.

Police said a car traveling southbound at a high rate of speed collided with a pedestrian before hitting a brick building at 4455 South Broadway. The car then rolled over and came to rest on its roof in the southbound lanes of traffic.

The pedestrian, an adult male, was pronounced deceased at the scene. On Monday, the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office identified the man as John Alex Lucero Jr., 53. It's unclear if the pedestrian was struck on the sidewalk or while crossing the roadway.

Two women inside the crashed vehicle were extricated and transported to the hospital with serious injuries. A man was seen running from the crashed car immediately after the incident, police said.

That man was identified Sunday as 20-year-old Edwin Solano from Thornton. A warrant for his arrest was issued for the following charges: failing to remain at the scene of an accident involving death and failing to remain at the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury.

By approximately 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, police said Solano had turned himself in.

Police shut down portions of South Broadway during the investigation. A portion of the sidewalk in front will remain closed until Monday due to the damage to the building.

Police are asking anyone with information about this accident to notify them at 303-761-7410.
