ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — A man faces an arson charge after he allegedly set multiple fires inside an Englewood Walmart.

On Thursday around 10:26 a.m., officers with the Englewood Police Department responded to the Walmart at 601 Englewood Parkway after receiving a report of a man pouring camping fuel down several aisles and lighting them on fire.

Police said this caused four separate fires in the story.

At the time, there were 135 customers and 40 employees in the store. Nobody was injured.

The suspect fled from the store.

The fire damaged the tile floors, shelves and merchandise, police said.

Police located a suspect several blocks away on a bike path near S. Santa Fe Drive and W. Dartmouth Avenue. He was identified as 43-year-old Darius Harper.

Harper ran from officers and resisted arrest once they caught him, police said.

He was taken into custody and later jailed at the Arapahoe County Detention Facility. He faces charges of fourth-degree arson, resisting arrest and criminal mischief.

The case remains under investigation and no other information was available as of Thursday afternoon.
