DENVER — Two children who authorities believed may have been in danger were located in Nebraska and are safe, according to a statement Tuesday from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, who also deactivated an Endangered Missing Advisory issued for the pair on Jan. 28.
The two children, ages 7 and 9 years old, are from Michigan and were believed to be in Colorado with their parents, 42-year-old Dennis and 37-year-old Rebecca Dunkelberger, according to the Jan. 28 report.
Nebraska State Police stopped the Dunkelberger family on Interstate 80 near the town of York, police said. The children were placed with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. They will be returned to the proper authorities in Michigan, according to Nebraska state police.
Rebecca Dunkelberger, was arrested for outstanding warrants. Dennis Dunkelberger, was released.
Authorities were concerned because both parents “have a history of drug use and violent tendencies when together.”
