BROOMFIELD, Colo. -- The trial for a man accused of killing his 4-year-old nephew with an ax is on hold while he undergoes psychiatric treatment.

A Broomfield County judge ruled on Sunday that Emanuel Doll, 26, is incompetent to stand trial.

Doll will be committed to the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo, where he will stay until he is "restored to competency" and can go to trial.

Doll is charged with one count of first-degree murder after deliberation and one count of first-degree murder of a child by a person in a position of trust.

Records show the 4-year-old victim was spending the day with Doll and Doll's parents in April of last year when Doll's mother found the boy in the basement with a bloody ax next to his body.

A review hearing is scheduled for March 19.
