EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. — Deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office seized two emaciated horses and cited the caretaker for alleged animal cruelty.

On Saturday, deputies responded to an address in the 13400 block Paint Mine Road in reference to an animal neglect case, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said once they arrived on the property, they found the two malnourished horses in an emaciated state.

A veterinarian was contacted and confirmed that both horses were neglected based on the lack of feed and dental care, according to the release.

The animals were seized and are being held at a boarding facility.

The property’s caretaker, whose name has not been released, was served and released on two counts of animal cruelty.
