DENVER – AGoFundMe page to repair the Rhinoceropolis space has exceeded its goal.

In just three days, more than 300 Rhinoceropolis supporters raised nearly $12,000 to “Rebuild Rhinoceropolis and Glob.”

The space had been used by musicians and other artists to hold concerts, fundraisers and exhibitions since 2005.

However, Denver city officials closed the space after they said they found serious code violations including extension cords being used as permanent wiring and no sprinkler system or smoke detectors throughout the building. A detailed list of other violations can be found here.

The building isn’t zoned for residential use, but officials said five adults were living there. Immediate evacuations were carried out.

Rhinoceropolis’ landlord said he’s working with the city to get the correct permits and the building inspected again.

The doors to the venue stayed locked on Monday, but efforts continue to get the space back up and running.
