A driver who got out of their disabled vehicle on Interstate 70 early Tuesday was struck by another vehicle and is now in critical condition, police said.

The auto-pedestrian accident occurred on eastbound I-70 at Brighton Boulevard just before 6:30 a.m. Denver police said the victim appeared to have been in the traffic lane when they were struck by a passing car.

The accident shut down two eastbound lanes and the Washington Street ramp to I-70 for nearly 90 minutes. I-70 reopened just before 8 a.m.

The victim's gender and identity were not released.

The driver of the secondary vehicle was also transported to the hospital for evaluation.

AirTracker7 flew over the scene and showed a red sedan with heavy front-end damage in the middle of the highway and a truck facing the wrong way on the right shoulder.
